Celebration of Sapphire: A New Year's Mystery
Join us now, for tale both twisty and turny. Nothing frightening, more a myriad of curiosities. Are you ready?
Here we have The Curious Case of Who the Heck are THEY? Normally, when postcards for The International Mail Art | Celebration of Sapphire are received here at HQ they are entered into our Master List so that we can be sure to thank the artist. That works one of two ways: Stateside addresses receive a Thank You Postcard that informs them we have received their submission and what number it was in the order they are received; while International submissions receive an email with an image of the front of the Thank You Postcard as well as an image of the back, personalized to them with the same information.
In The Curious Case …., we have a confluence of names with no discernible connection to this project. More curiouser is that no one by any of these names is a member in any of our online communities that we can see. We have shared this event on several Mail Art Groups, and have consistently hash-tagged our posts on Instagram and Facebook to reflect the steady activity of this endeavor. So it’s entirely possible that it is someone who saw the call and perhaps mixed up their submissions (?)
We do not know…. We know only that we have no way to thank this person for their submission, nor make contact to attempt to restore the artwork to their postcard. In one other instance, a card arrive that had been separated from it’s front, so that what was received was just a blank white postcard, much like the one above. However, in that case, there was an email address; we were able to reach out and get a photo of the artist’s submission and restore their entry for display. All of that to say: if any of our new visitors recognizes the names and/or handwriting of our Mystery Card, please have them reach out to us. If the work is available in digital format we can get things re-connected in short order. This may seem an outlandish request, but in our short time in the realm of Mail Art we see many of the same names again and again. It is not beyond the pale to think that someone may indeed know from whom our Mystery Card came.
Three and half weeks to go! We can hardly wait for the mail each day in anticipation of the final submissions.
Until next time,
~ Penny & Michelle
