Penny L. Weaver

I am a mixed media and book artist from eastern North Carolina.  My work, often featuring letterforms and text as design elements, is a visual representation of a lifelong love of reading, word-play and COLOR.  My art has been featured both online and in print.

For the past 20 years, I have been teaching bookmaking and mixed media methodology locally, regionally, and nationally, working with:  primary/middle school children at The Chavis Community Center and teens at The Sertoma Arts Center and for adults at Jerry’s Artarama in Raleigh, NC; Patti Digh’s Life is a Verb Camp; the International Paper Doll Convention (in Philadelphia, PA and Chattanooga, TN) ; and by way of private workshops/events.  In 2019 I was selected by the Arts Council of Cumberland County for a pilot program working with the veterans at the North Carolina Veterans Home. I particularly enjoy designing unique creative experiences for small groups and enriching events for people of all ages and artistic abilities.   My motto: “Have paper, will travel!”

When not creating art or aiding others in their creative pursuits, I am most likely writing. I perform at a few different, local Open Mic events and have been published in multiple poetry anthologies since 2016, most recently in the North Carolina Bards Poetry Anthology 2025. I actively seek new ways to collaborate with individuals and organizations to use art as a means to celebrate, document, and reflect this wild ride we call Life.  You can find me on the Internet at:  art paper love.

I look forward to a return to book arts at Seaside Sessions 2026 with the creation of our Mixed Media Treasure Tome. Designed to be both easy to build and ideal for personalization, I can hardly wait to see how our Creative Explorers make this unique treasure their own!

Until we meet again by the sea, I am excited to see what beauty comes our way via our International Mail Art Call for The Celebration of Sapphire. I hope that you will take the time to stretch your creative muscles and join us for the fun!
